Francis LeBaron dies at Orofino
OROFINO – Francis H. LeBaron, 84, the 1961 Grassman of the Year for Clearwater County, died of the infirmities of age and the complications of several strokes 11:15 a.m. Friday at Clearwater Valley Hospital.
LeBaron suffered his first stroke April 16 and since then has been in and out of hospitals at Lewiston and Orofino. He was a patient at the Clearwater Hospital for the last three weeks.
LeBaron and his Brother, Ray, operated a lumber mill until 1917 while also farming on 344 acres in the Cavendish area. He continued farming after his brother’s death with his eldest sone Benjamin.
He was born Dec. 1, 1890, at Dwight, Kan., to Marshall and Elizabeth LeBaron. The family came to the Cavendish area in 1904. LeBaron received his education there and was graduated from Lewis-Clark Normal School.
He married Mary Ellen Clay at Lewiston Nov. 26, 1925. She preceded him in death in March of 1960.
LeBaron was a member of the Episcopal Church of Lewiston and a charter member of the Evergreen Grange.
He is survived by two sons, Benjamin LeBaron of Kendrick and Eugene of Lenore; two daughters, Barbara Lacey of Orofino and Frances Findley of Spokane; 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Gilbert’s Funeral Chapel, Orofino, with burial following at the Cavendish Cemetery.
